Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how Excel Translator uses cookies and similar technologies. It complements our Privacy Policy.
1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device by a website you visit. Cookies are widely used to make websites work, to make them work more efficiently, and to provide information to the site owners. Some cookies expire when you close your browser ("session cookies"); others remain until they expire or you delete them ("persistent cookies").
Beyond cookies, websites may use related technologies such as localStorage (which stores preferences in your browser without sending data to the server), web beacons, and tracking pixels. We refer to all of these collectively as "cookies" in this policy.
2. Cookies we use
2.1 Strictly necessary cookies
Required for the Site to function. These cannot be disabled.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| ff-cookie-consent | Remembers that you accepted (or declined) the cookie banner so we don't show it again. | 1 year |
2.2 Functional (localStorage)
Stored in your browser's localStorage; never transmitted to us.
| Key | Purpose |
|---|---|
| ff-theme | Your dark/light theme preference. |
| ff-ui-lang | Whether the UI is set to English or Hindi. |
| ff-translator-history | Your last 10 translator queries (for the History panel). |
| ff-favorites | Functions you've starred in the Library. |
| ff-best-score | Your highest quiz score. |
All of the above can be cleared via your browser's site-data settings.
2.3 Analytics cookies
If we deploy a privacy-respecting analytics tool (e.g. Plausible, Cloudflare Web Analytics, or Google Analytics with IP anonymisation), it may set cookies to count unique visitors and measure aggregate usage. These cookies do not identify you personally.
2.4 Advertising cookies (Google AdSense)
This Site participates in Google AdSense, an advertising service operated by Google LLC. Google and its partners use cookies (including the DART cookie, also known as the DoubleClick cookie) to serve ads based on your visits to this Site and other sites on the internet.
Specifically:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visits to this Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Users may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| __gads | Google AdSense | Measures ad views and ad clicks; tracks the user's interactions with our ads. |
| __gpi | Google AdSense | Pairs with __gads to enable personalised advertising. |
| IDE | Google DoubleClick | Used to measure the conversion rate of ads. |
| id, ANID, NID | Various Google services; ad personalisation. |
3. How to manage cookies
3.1 In your browser
Most browsers let you view, manage, and delete cookies. The exact path varies:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions
Note: blocking all cookies will break parts of most websites, including this one (e.g. theme preference will not persist).
3.2 Opting out of personalised advertising
- Google Ads Settings — turn off personalised ads from Google.
- www.aboutads.info — opt out of many participating ad networks at once (DAA).
- YourOnlineChoices.com — European equivalent (EDAA).
3.3 The cookie banner on this Site
When you first visit, a banner asks you to accept or decline non-essential cookies. Your choice is stored locally and respected on subsequent visits. You can change your choice at any time by clearing the ff-cookie-consent entry in your browser's localStorage.
4. Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. Because there is no industry consensus on how to interpret DNT, we do not currently respond to DNT signals beyond what is required by applicable law. We do, however, respect your choice in our cookie banner.
5. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy as we add or remove tools and as regulations evolve. Material changes will be flagged at the top of this page.
